ImageThe Steam makers - Valve - have joined the Linux foundation. Valves Gabe Newell did early on predict that Windows 8 was a
a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space

So he turned down Windows as a gaming platform. Microsofts "prison entry" conditions did also contribute to the decision.

(Newell used to work for Microsoft).

Valve has unleashed the Steam OS for the big screens and it is based on Linux.
The steam engine has been available for Linux for some time - I can confirm that it works perfectly in Manjaro.
Most people will come across it in the Ubuntu software center.

Joining the Linux Foundation is one of many ways Valve is investing in the advancement of Linux gaming," Mike Sartain, one of Valve's Linux team members, said in a statement. "Through these efforts, we hope to contribute tools for developers building new experiences on Linux, compel hardware manufacturers to prioritize support for Linux, and ultimately deliver an elegant and open platform for Linux users.

This means that Valve will be going for Linux all the way and contribute back to the community. This is promising for Graphic card drivers.

Valve is a giant in the gaming industry - and the most visionary one:
Our membership continues to grow as both new and mature entities embrace community development and open technologies," Foundation COO Mike Woster said. "Our new members believe Linux is a strategic investment that allows their markets to evolve as quickly as possible to achieve long-term variability and competitiveness.
