It's entirely possible that I tried to update at the wrong time, and everything wasn't on the servers yet.

Got a bit of a problem on todays update. Pacman needed to get updated and could not due to dependencies. So I had to uninstall Yoaurt

Code: Select all

pacman -Rs yaourt
and pacman-color (of course) and powerpill!
updated pacman and updated the db and reinstalled yaourt and pacman-color. Sadly powerpill is not possible to reinstall due to the perl-xyne-arch dependency. Xyne has been too busy and cannot maintain it any more :(

Yeah, looks like it's going to have to be rebuilt without that dependency. Good luck with that one, I say. :P

FYI: The Arch devels are responsible for new packages for yaourt and powerpill:

Code: Select all

:) pacman -Ss yaourt
archlinuxfr/yaourt 0.9.5.3-1 [0.03 MB] [installed]
A pacman wrapper with extended features and AUR support
.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rocks.net : 08:03:45 : ~ ]:.
:) pacman -Ss powerpill
community/powerpill 2010.08.26.1-1 [0.00 MB] [installed]
A wrapper for pacman that speeds up package retrieval by using aria2c for
    concurrent/segmented downloads.

Check it out, Boss. Either they removed them from the repos for now, or they just plain forgot to put them in. Watch real close what happens here:

Yes that is what I said I believe. Powerpill is useless for now because Xyne has no time to maintain the dependencies.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 10#p904710
I have upgraded one box and that went fine - but it is without Powerpill now. If you remove yaourt with -Rs the settings are kept so it is easy to reinstall. The bug is filed and they are working on it but as Xyne states; this will take some time.

I'd be more than happy to send you the last versions of pacman, pacman-color, yaourt, and powerpill if you'd like.

You'd install them using pacman -U <packagename>

Then put them into /etc/pacman.conf as so until there's a fix:

Code: Select all

# Pacman won't upgrade packages listed in IgnorePkg and members of IgnoreGroup
IgnorePkg   = postgresql pacman yaourt powerpill
#IgnoreGroup =

Do we need to do that when updating is impossible anyway? Does the ignore list make the pacman upgrade possible? I would think ignoring powerpill would be - dangerous, since it is a Pacman "shell"?

It's not dangerous if you have previous versions installed.
Have a look here.
It still wanted to upgrade pacman, but offered to ignore it, and I took up on it. I still got the updates for everything else. The idea is to have the last previous versions installed of these things, and then put them into /etc/pacman.conf to skip updating them for now. It's not forever. It's just until they have this sorted. I do this when things happen with packages, temporarily until there's a fix for them.

Yes I guess it is ok as long as pacman is in the list.
I'll do that on another box. This one is fully upgraded - powerpill.

No I don't need any packages. The one I upgraded is perfectly fine and when powerpill works again I will just reinstall it. On the other box I am upgrading just now. I forgot to ignore pacman-color and for once it was up to date :) so I had to ignore it during update. No worries.
