| To compete against Google/Android and Apple, Microsoft and Nokia have formed a partnership. This is bad news for Meego and QT. The Nokia shares dropped dramatically after the announcement. Both companies are in serious trouble in the cellphone market and Nokias symbian has been a market leader for years but is not up to the task anymore. Microsoft have nothing to show for themselves in that market so far. So this partnership is formed out of desperation. But Nokia is still the worlds largest producer of Cellphones, so there is no reason to underestimate this alliance. It could be to late though. |

Re: Microsoft and Nokia form partnership
I understand the alliance. What I see that MS will be the kiss of death for Nokia. Win 7 Phone OS has nothing to offer and people already tasted what Android can do. Open Source has the Upper Hand on this one and MS is playing catch-up.
Is a waiting game.
Nokia is well known for good hardware and long lasting battery life. The Win 7 Mobile OS could hinder performance since we all know how much of a resource huger can be.

Yes MS must play catch up - I wonder if they can. I tend to agree with you that Win7 hardly will fit. But they need to come up with something and they have a lot of money to spend on it.

A big win for M$ but not so good for Nokia though they still will be using Symbian and Meego.

Re: Microsoft and Nokia form partnership
Two things can come out this marriage.
1) I do not think MS will gain traction on the market.
2) Nokia is going down the tubes and MS is going to buy the company to make their very own phone (hardware & software).
On the side...
What Android need to do is to have 2 Distros. One that is somewhat close and one open.
What I am getting with this, Android's virtue is its downfall and is fragmentation. They need a referee that will keep crapware out. Another is less releases, in the way is going, encourage the replacement of phones because a new version comes out. That is just dumb. I have an Android Tablet and is becoming obsolete by the months. Unless I can install the newest OS version on it.
