Cookies appear to work strangely

Postby dedanna1029 » 04 Nov 2010, 20:04

I don't know much about cookies in general, but want to mention that things appear to work strangely here. Whether as moderator or regular user, sometimes if I'm idle here, it will keep me logged in for as much as 2 days, other times just for an hour or two. I'm wondering what makes the difference? If I don't hit the logout link here, I should stay logged in for as long as I am, even when idle, or no?

In general cookies work strangely on your end. The cookies set by this board will be the same, so if there is a difference it could be different browsers and different policies on your end.

Okay, thanks.

Wondering how they do work? Am I supposed to stay logged in here even when idle?

Well there are to to handle the userid and the sessions. They can be a bit buggy - so I think it is not perfect in PHPBB.
This typically occurs when you get a 404 page and hit enter and then the page loads, or you are asked for the password more than once.
I believe the default length is 3600 sec. (1 hour). But if you have asked your browser to log you in automatically every time or something similar this can be affected.
