All I'm going to say to that is at one time social networking had absolutely no place in my life, but came to learn that it can be, and therefore is currently, being used for MUCH more powerful and meaningful things than what you speak of there. I have close to 800 followers on Twitter, and have come to know them up close and personal in a way, and wouldn't trade a single one of them for anything. They fight hard for what they believe in, give good information in their tweets to everyone, and are very fine upstanding people. It's the same on my Facebook. At first in Facebook, I gamed, until I woke up one morning and realized what it was all about, which is something that is FAR, FAR, from games and just "keeping up with people".
Social media is a very good tool when used right. There are those who are not into it, but if they realize the power in it, they could be. It's all in the quality you keep.
I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.
