I see! That cursor fits right into the motive there.

It really does, and it's a lot of fun watching that "fishie" swim around on my desktop!

Emerald with a modded theme that a certain significant other did up:
Look really closely, in particular at the title bars. There's more than meets the eye right off the bat to this theme.
See it? The inactive title bars go in the opposite direction on the gradient from the active ones.
Also, check out those buttons! Keep on top, Sticky, Minimize, Restore, and Maximize.
I want my compiz, emerald, and gnome 2 back!!! *sniffles *sad

Re: What does your desktop look like?
Yes it pretty much went went away with Gnome2. And as we all know; the Gnome 3 devs know best....
Compiz did really have a lot of eye candy that could market Linux. The replacements do not have it to that extent. And we should not underestimate the effect of looking good.
Apple has made a lot of money from that......
Here is my OpenBox again with the right-click menu....

Re: What does your desktop look like?
I'm checking out E17 ATM on Mageia, with cairo-dock. Nothing worth showing off yet, but after I'm done playing, there might be, who knows. So far, I'm liking it, but kept the panel anyway just in case; cairo-dock, when I tried it some years back was prone to crashing.
Oh, and it's nice knowing there's a desktop that I can have desktop effects on without taking up a literal ton plus of resources.

Re: What does your desktop look like?
Do show it - I did not mean to intimidate everybody with my perfect looking desktops
Simple ones are welcome too...
The E17 is a real "looker" but it lacks some functionality compared to OpenBox if you ask me.
Just to give you back some confidence here is my good old boring Mandriva 2010 box.

With good ol' Gnome 2.30 you know that thing that just works and gets the job done and even has eye candy and compiz and.... then Gnome3 came along

Re: What does your desktop look like?
Yeah... I'm still tempted to install an older distro that has 2.32 on it. Still haven't found one. Even CentOS just had 2.30, and seriously lacked functionality.
I'm not ready yet to show anything off, is why I said that. I'm having an issue. Somehow I've lost my window list in E17, so now can't find proggies I have minimized, etc.
Cairo-dock doesn't even appear to have one.

Re: What does your desktop look like?
I'm done with the desktop shit. They've screwed up just about every one there is into something I don't even recognize any more, and isn't functional for me, so you'll not see me here any more. I ain't got time to make it look great 'n good 'n wonderful, and I'm done trying to make it great good 'n wonderful.
Until the desktop devs pull their heads out of their arses, I'm out. So now, viking is the desktop king. I relinquish my title. I don't want it any more.

Re: What does your desktop look like?
You are truly conservative
Everything was better in the good ol' days - how dare they change that.
I think KDE is OK, xfce is fine, and openbox will be as fine as you make it. Gnome is not up there anymore IMO - there is too much
But I don't think that this should be a contest of the best looking desktop - a simple sreenshot of any desktop will do.....
You newer know how it might inspire others.

Re: What does your desktop look like?
XFCE has nowhere near the features that Gnome does even. LOL.
My desktop is just the default standards now. Nothing more or less. Everyone's seen that.
