Update brakes Mageia 5

Postby viking60 » 10 Dec 2016, 13:04

I did the usual

Code: Select all

sudo urpmi --auto-update
today and had to break it off.
When I tried to restart mageia I get the login screen and after that i only have a black screen with this message:
xt_addrtype ipv6 does not support BROADCAST matching

That's bad,

Do we have any ideas?

My update went just fine.

Beside the point, what is the deal with 6? Have been waiting for a very long time...

I think they just presented the "release" 5.1 Regarding 6 I guess they have the Debian take on it:

When will the release be out?

:A
When it is finished

It is hard to plan volunteer labour - you cannot order them around like in a business.

I did have to brutally power off during update - but that should not leave me without an OS so I am a bit disappointed by this since Mageia has been very good quality lately.
But admittedly I don't update regularly and I do put some strain on the distros.....

I think they should go the rolling distro way. Just keep updating and every so often, bundle the updates like 5.1

Yup rolling distro sounds good to me.

Ironically you need to update them more regularly but I got the problems with the "regular" distro.

It may take more manpower to maintain a rolling distro. Mageia seems to always be short of people.
OTH I doubt if they would have announced that they have enough people

I thought a rolling distro was easier to maintain. Perhaps I had the wrong impression all this time.

Well.... yes...and...no

Those against say it takes more manpower and those in favor say it takes less. :confused

Basically it is up to the devs.

I prefer rolling distros. +1
