Can't log in to Mageia

Postby viking60 » 28 Oct 2016, 22:15

Today I wanted to look into Mageia again and booted it in my VM.

I entered my username and correct password and bounced right back to the login - so no I can type my username and password forever :berserkf

Any Magicians with a solution?

I thought it was a way to slave the hardrive and change the password. Can a Live distro like Knoppix can do it?

Reporting back.

I used our LiveCD and chrooted into Mageia.

Lightdm was the displaymanager that caused the problem and reinstalling it did not help so it was time for some Berserk style actions :berserkf

I deleted lightdm and installed lxdm.

Then I enabled the Lxdm loginmanager like this:

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl enable lxdm

Jumped out of chroot with CTRL+D and unmounted mageia.. and rebooted.
There i was prompted to log in by Lxdm :s

and
:drummer
:drummer
It logged me in perfectly fine.

Don't ask me why Lightdm suddenly stopped working though (Maybe a policykit thing) anyway I don't care as long as i can log in and continue to destroy my installs...

I noticed that Lightdm has been misbehaving for a long time in Mageia, at least with with XFCE4 and Cinnamon so this is kind of a solution (aka workaround)... :smug

Nice trick :s

Used to use the Windows ERD dor Xp and W2K. Was so handy to change the local machine admin password...

Proof the point that Physical Security is the weakest in the hacker world +1
