Manjaro thread

Since Manjaro is a rolling release I thought for those who are new to it, they could come to one central thread to check out the latest from Manjaro, rather than having a separate thread for each release.

I've just been reading about a development version of Manjaro that's been released, 15.12, which ships with kernel 4.3.

Insofar as things go for me, the problem here is they have, I'm sure, missed the kernel release 4.1.12-1 (which they completely by-passed), which includes support for the newer Qualcomm Atheros and contains security fixes. The main issue with that being the security fixes. There hasn't been time for them to pick up on it. I'm wondering how many other distros are going to move on and by-pass this too.

Shall we let the devs at Manjaro know just to be on the safe side?

Yes, but as I said they couldn't have had time to implement the needed security fixes to it as they were just released in 4.1.12, nor would they have the support for the Qualcomm Atheros Killer and QCA6174 yet. They did up a 4.3 on their own volition so to speak. They put the cart before the horse. Run an info on that last kernel. I bet if you upgrade to 15.12 and get the info on the 4.3 kernel as well, the security fixes are not mentioned.

In my simple mind it should work if the ath10k driver contains the drivers for your hardware.
I am updating now and before the update these are the available kernels:

So it should be possible to install kernel 4.1 and use the ath10k driver.

IF the firmware is there. That's the thing that's boggled the works.

I was right. If you look in your /usr/lib/firmware/ath10k folder you'll see there is absolutely nothing supporting the QCA6174. I'd have to do the same thing I did with Mageia to get them to support it. File a bug, get whatever firmware they want me to, test, yada-yada. I'm not up for all that when I've never even used Manjaro.

I'm betting it's the same with Arch.

Well since it is the same Hardware you should be able to do it pretty much in the same way.

Only if they've applied the needed fixes to the kernel to support the firmware I have with.

Philip takes the Arch repos and works with them so this thing needs to happen in Arch first I guess.

Yeah. I'm not up to going through all this again though. I suppose I could file a bug for it but I'm going to wait a bit. I fought this thing so hard and it was so frustrating with Mageia (even though it turned out well) that I really want a break.
