Sight issues w/Linux

Postby dedanna1029 » 02 Nov 2015, 00:44

I'm taking suggestions on what to do here. Fonts are way too small for me to read in Mageia - my sight is getting to the "just about had it" stage.

In Firefox, I've tried beefing up the font sizes but nothing is changing, things are still really teeny for me.

It's the same with the other things as well; fonts are really small.

I hate to mess with the screen resolution although it would be easier to see if I did. Curretly on a 1920x1080:

Code: Select all

[dedanna@localhost ~]$ xrandr | grep '*'
   1920x1080     60.00*+
[dedanna@localhost ~]$

However, I'm on this in Windows and things aren't anywhere near this teeny in it. I really am not sure how to handle this.

Thanks.

I think that is done in the themes. That is where to edit font size.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

OK, thanks. I'll see what i can do. So far I'm mostly using KDE; XFCE4 is being a tad buggy. I'll see if I can find it in system settings or something - that's how the theme I'm on got installed.

In KDE, I increase the dpi to 120 from the default 90. (I think that I also increased some of the font sizes)

System Settings > Application Appearance > Fonts

CTRL with the + sign will zoom in on the browser, with the - will zoom back.

Find it pretty handy instead of changing stuff around.

Thanks Jim, I'll give it a shot in System Settings. I've tried increasing fonts but it seems to have had very little if any effect.

P., I have to hit Ctrl+ some five times each time I load something. Good idea and I've done it but it's way too tedious. Thank you though.

Jim, I increased to 120 dpi in System Settings, logged out and in. Some better, yes, thank you.

In Firefox however I've increased the font to very little/no effect. Suggestions? Thanks!

I have the font sizes all set to 18 in Firefox and Thunderbird. (I just kept increasing the size until I was comfortable.) I've also set USE KDE fonts in the GTK module in System Settings > Application appearance You may have to install gtk-qt-kcm. I can't remember if it's installed by default.

I admit I really don't understand how this all works. I just kept fiddling with it until I got an acceptable result.

Haha. OK, thank you. I'll just keep going with it then. I set the font to 16 - maybe that's it.
