OpenSuse again (13.1/13.2)

Doing a zypper dup on my Suse install now - I'll let you know how it goes...

Well I am on 13.2 and

zypper update

works just fine.
If I do zypper dup then it wants to reinstall LibreOffice etc and I don't have the space for that in My VB.

But long left alone; the update went through so that is positive. You might give it a go.

Trying to but metalink isn't cooperating. I think since they don't have a straight torrent link, I'll just download directly.

Speaking of torrent, um, viking.iso? Never got it downloaded. I know we're on SuSe here but... just a very fast reminder.

openSUSE is downloaded, I just need to find a flash stick to put it on. I'll give it a go later on.

I've downloaded the dvd for openSUSE, and burned the image to usb flash stick. I let go of Mageia on the same stick because it wasn't seeing the Qualcomm wireless driver for my lappy (it's on too early of a kernel), and without an inet connection, it would've been virtually impossible (or extremely difficult) to get the driver going.

openSUSE has the 4.1 kernel on Milestone 2, so I'm going to give it a go. I've heard this kernel has fixed the Qualcomm/Realtek issue. We shall see. Hopefully it has a live element to it that I can use to test, but just in case I'm running a thorough scandisk and defrag on my Windows 8.1 first, and giving a partition to split up for openSUSE, for installation of it.
UEFI is turned off completely in BIOS; I'm on 100% Legacy.

I'm ready and done, seems like. Again, we'll see.

If this doesn't work then I'll be putting in an eth cable and go DSL; but I'd rather not. It would be a pain.

I will wait, viking, until I have the viking.iso downloaded so I can seed it. Although it sees you on Deluge, it's not downloading atm.

Yayus! Now this is what I'm talkin' 'bout Willis!

openSUSE saw the Mageia partitions and decided to install into the free partition I had lol, but right now I don't care - I didn't bother with Expert mode to partition. I can delete off Mageia later.
Just need to refresh meself on commands for openSUSE, and away I go - well, away I go anyway...

Just a couple things bothering me here. Look at the bottom of the first one, in Firefox. On the second one, I didn't do it. Seriously. I don't know how to fix it either. I've noticed it happening to others, too. Some kind of bug maybe? Updates aren't supposed to stop until next month.

Those flash messages are pretty common these days. Chromium has its pepper and it will be gone eventually. Other technologies will fill the space - it remains to be seen if they will be any safer...

And Suse and repo trouble...why am I not surprised?

Although while that is the "story of my life" I must admit that the repos have worked fine here.

One of the key functions that makes Opensuse user friendly - the Yast GUI control panel - does not work at all though.
So Opensuse has bugs that are hard to iron out. The forums are messy IMO and the wiki doesn't help.

It is hard to get "an overview" over OpenSuse and you can get surprises.
That is just me though. I can put Arch and Manjaro in my back pocket and if something turns up there is almost always some documentation to fix it.

Ii might just be my lacking ability to find my way around in the Suse documentation.

Is there a command I can run in lieu of the inxi -r? Without alternate repos, I can't install it. :\

Also, where does Linux hide the wallpapers these days? I've installed a sh!ttonne and none show up anywhere. I'm also wondering where the cursor themes hide these days? I'm finding nothing in /home/.local/share, nowhere to put ones I've gathered. I don't also see a place in XFCE settings to place them in, to add a folder for wallpapers I've downloaded? General things like that...



I need to sleep, but will check back later. Maybe if I shut this thing down and give it a good reboot... ?

I think the default wallpapers right after install are in /usr/share/wallpapers/xfce.
But you can use any directory you like by right-clicking the desktop and set it there (press the [+] button).

It will keep those you have and add yours in whatever directory.

Ah, there's the confusion. I don't have those options to choose directory, etc. - see on my screenie there.

I'm beginning to think I got a buggy install.

However, on the repo thing, I'm seeing posts in Google+ that they're getting the same thing.

In any case you can put your wallpapers in the default directory.
