Yeah I have had Backtrack and now Kali for some time

I think it is a forensics distro only.

Actually,
You can install Kali onto a machine's hard drive and you can even encrypt the drive as well.
They don't use the LUKS system like when you encrypt your install with Ubuntu. They are doing something different.
Here's a couple of links.
