Audio/Video Software for Linux

Postby dedanna1029 » 15 Mar 2010, 05:30

Just a few for those who are in need:

Audacity
Easytag
Rhythmbox
Streamtuner
Amarok

For video:
Totem
MPlayer
Tovid
FFMpeg
Mencoder
Avidemux
dvdrip
Mkvmerge GUI (along with Matroska info)

The list goes on and on...

Feel free to add to the list, and if you have issues, just holler, and we'll get you fixed up!

I have been using ffmepeg a little lately in combination with gtk-recordMyDesktop. I make a nice tutorial while recording my desktop and convert it to avi with ffmpeg:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -i myfile.ogv myfile.avi
and Youtube here we come :D If you like GUI's you could install winff. It makes the conversion to avi (and other formats) easy.
Here a little demonstration of the urpmi --parallel funktion in Mandriva:

And here I went bananas (If you don't have the plugin in FF open it with VLC or some other movie player):

Edit: I put the videos in a spoiler
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

I did a similar one back when I was on MDV 2008.1 (it's nowhere near as good though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rNP0xr9k2k

WOW that was great! And I loved the music. You totally outclassed me there. Where did that modesty come from?

I honestly thought yours was better. :) It looked more professional, and the desktop was nicer. :)

Well I think your video is so good I integrated it in this post. You can do that now with the new "youtube" button.

Thanks for that. Let's see what others think; I think they'll find yours better, too. :)

Edit: Oh, btw, I put with the video info what I used to record that. gtkrecordmydesktop, and a couple other things (it's been a while, I don't remember the other things right off now).
