Since Mandriva as an open source distro is no longer, here's yer official OpenMandriva thread.
Go for it.

Re: OpenMandriva
Top left logo I can't see very well there, because it's too small, and I'm currently on a 32" screen, but isn't that the MSN Live logo?

Re: OpenMandriva
Actually, it's MSN Live I was thinking about. Similar colors, but not the same:

Re: OpenMandriva
On IRC, POK posted a link to a pre-release of alpha 3. He wrote that at that time he had not tried to install it himself. I haven't seen anything more and haven't tried it myself.

Re: OpenMandriva
HaHA so far I love it! I am installing and while this thing takes its time I can play digger High score and everything I love it! That is as far as I have come - but so far it is great
May it take a long time to install
Dammit now it moved on...
Setting users and passwords etc
Network connections was not found so I got an error message there - must be fixable later on I guess. Picking the vesa Xorg thing....
Choosing the Plug'n Play monitor...
And get a status that looks like this:
Now let us see if we can get everything to work.....
No - the network is and the timezone cannot be changed so I will just click my way through.......
...
And then it is time to reboot
Setfont failed according to boot messages - that is what I had time to see before the "Fedora load bar" started doing "its work".
and.....
I have a nice login prompt for my user...
Loging in...
And everything goes fine 'cept there is no background (but who cares I can set one later)
I get a prompt regarding gstreamer resources:
Eh yes - since it is required I want that so I answer "Continue"
And get
Install GStreamer Resources
No results found
! Could not find plugin in any configured software source.
I guess I will have no sound in my VB....
And no internet..
Cannot start the control panel with mcc and harddrake does not fire either. rpmdrake works but since I have no internet that is not much usable.
So where do I start fixing the Network...
Cheking that Mandriva Moondrake is running systemd
And it does, so lemme see if I can read up on systemd and networks....
Well we do have this known network alias bug:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53954
And I am seriously suspecting that this has something to do with it...
Here is my ifconfig:
no eth there but I guess i have to figure out howto put enp0s3 to work.....

Re: OpenMandriva
Drakconnect is not playing along:
Cheking my modem and router settings in VB....
And changing the "Hardware" there to Intel1000 something did the trick
Now where do we set the repsoitories on this thing since I cannot start MCC....
This is strange:
mcc is in /usr/share but not in /usr/bin
I have come to the point where i have to shout for gurus:
How can I simply work with repos here?
Edit:
Found it! mcc is removed but will handle the repos.
So now I only need to figure out where those cooker repos are GURUS!
Problems occured during the network connectivity test.
This can be caused by invalid network configuration, or problems with your modem or router.
You might want to relaunch the configuration to verify the connection settings.

Re: OpenMandriva
AFAICT, there is just one cooker media source, atm, until OpenMandriva, the distro, the machines, the mirrors, gets put in place, idk. Anyway, you could try over here -> http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/cooker/repository/
Re: OpenMandriva
Thanks! the good old
did the trick. It works better than drakrpm-edit-media for me.
Ok So now I have Mandriva Alpha2013 - Moondrake installed.
Still no sound and background but the installation process was fun and mostly worked out of the box.
The time frame that organizes all your documents by time works right out of the box and it also has a social media section where you can do that stuff.
I installed some ugly and bad gstreamers and now I have system sounds ksnapshot plays this nice little tune when I take snapshots...
This is what I installed:
The rocket bar is as it is, and the menus are filling the page - kind of Gnome style. It looks good and if you cannot read and like big pictures instead, this is just fine. If not search for tips here to get your good old panel and menu back.
I had to install flash and it works just fine.
So this is what Mandriva 2013 looks like after I draged a wallpaper from Dolphin to the desktop:
AndI have the system sounds going and the youtube videos are playing nicely
That is an improvement
The font rendering is fantastic so it is a joy to read this forum from Moondrake. So this Alpha "just works".
On the login screen you can now pick other DE's if you click the star on the bottom left.
But it looks like they are leaving the Mandriva Control Panel (MCC cannot be fired) - I cannot understand why they would leave Mandrivas greatest asset behind
This is enough to keep me curious....I think this could become a great comeback.
What still confuses me is if this is OpenMandriva or ROSA though
Code: Select all
urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist 'http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/cooker/repository/x86_64'
