OpenMandriva will want to own assets and solicit contributions. A legal entity is required for this. Paperwork is required to establish a legal entity.

we need a distro.... preferably a Mandriva distro.

We have been told that the intention is that OpenMandriva will produce its own distro (independent of and separate from ROSA) with its own repositories, installation media etc. Only cooker will be shared with ROSA. I have not seen any specifics on how this will work in reality.

Very nice! :s

Here, I see gegl is a small binary, the only file in the rpm, that opens a small window with no menus or buttons:
Image

Does it work as a GIMP plugin or something? Image

Edit: I see it in the Tools menu:

No yellow star for Open Mandriva

Postby viking60 » 28 Jan 2013, 22:17

Rumor has it that OpenMandriva is not allowed to use a yellow star, so all these artistique efforts have been in vain.

These guys must have permissions

The rules are here:

http://www.openmandriva.org/en/content/ ... ompetition

Note that four images need to be provided.

My understanding is that these rules are required in order to comply with the terms under which Mandriva SA permitted the use of "Mandriva" in the name of the association.

They sound to me like something that a lawyer has dreamt up in order to justify his fee. :)

I assume that the "Mandriva star" includes the wee curly thing on the side - which is what distinguishes it from any other star.

Hmm yes it is not wise for Mandriva SA to dictate to much if this is to be an independent community. The big point has been the independence from Mandriva SA all the way, so it does seem strange if they dictate to much.

If it is connected to the Mandriva name then I really think that Macdriva is a better name - that way we can use yellow stars. :-D

But I think I will leave it to other artists. There are way to much rules for the four community members. I think that building a live community requires other things than a set of restricting rules - more like encouraging ones.

How about: "Create what you want" - and the best one will be picked. :?: Linus did not restrict Tux either, so it would be more in the spirit of Linux.

Um, should we not now rename this thread to "OpenMandriva"???

No, seriously.
