Mageia forum down

Postby viking60 » 30 Apr 2017, 21:29

When I enter
https://forum.mageia.org/en/

I get a "connection refused can't load page" message.
The other pages are working - it is just the forum.

Anyone else?

The forums are the last item to be fixed and now being worked on. The mailing list server was back up last week.

Thanks. That explains it.
The forum was truly outdated and it can be a hassle to update it (I know). I pulled it from Git at one point and was shocked regarding the version.

The policy to not add to many BBC codes and features was to make future updates smoother I believe. But the infrastructure policy might have become a dinosaur; too time consuming to handle.

Mageia has always had the correct focus on the distro though - distro first - everything else second +1

Lastly, we want to reassure everyone that we are still working to get the forum and wiki fixed and that they should both be fully operational very soon. The holdup with the forum is that the old database isn’t importing into the new forum, we obviously want to have all of the old messages available as they are a key part of the community and support available for Mageia.

That may be a major obstacle. I had no problem importing the data to the new phpBB forum but the old forum had to be "up to date".

Transferring the data from the new phpBB form to a backup is pure Hell though.......

So the Mageia forum is still down.

Seems to me they need you on this. I'm still getting "Site can not be reached" at the home page.

Yes it has been down for a while now. If I remember correctly the forum is not top of the priority list - many prefer mailing lists.

Makes sense, I suppose. One would think however that it would be fixed by now, surely?

Well they have this complex infrastructure and want to pull the forum from Git - I believe.

Unnecessary complicated by the looks of it so I think it should be back up again too.

But transferring data can be complicated in phpBB and does not always work as described so it could be "one of those things"

The Mageia forum is now back online:
https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=11715

There is a further update of the phpBB software (currently being tested) to be done in the next few weeks, but that should not require any significant downtime.

Thanks!
That is not an updates version of phpBB though...It looks like they transferred the old version. Upgrading can be a hassle but as I recall it there are not to many "extensions" in the forum so that will make it easier.
