Openmandriva discriminates Berserk locale

Postby viking60 » 20 Jul 2014, 11:15

I was finally able to update Openmandriva only to discover a sneaky conspiracy against the Berserks.
The Norwegian Locale is gone - May the Hammer of Thor strike you hard :berserkf :berserk2

Code: Select all

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
        LANGUAGE = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_ALL = (unset),
        LC_MEASUREMENT = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_MESSAGES = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_NUMERIC = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_MONETARY = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_TIME = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_IDENTIFICATION = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_TELEPHONE = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_ADDRESS = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_SOURCED = "1",
        LC_COLLATE = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_PAPER = "en_US.UTF-8",
        LC_CTYPE = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LC_NAME = "nb_NO.UTF-8",
        LANG = "nb_NO.UTF-8"
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

This nice message pops up every time I open the Konsole. I used to fix this in the kde settings but I am only using openbox now so I have to figure out where to set it.
keyboarddrake indicates that the norwegian locale is set. :confused But those all important æøå and ÆØÅ do not work :f

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf indicates that norwgian locale is set:

Code: Select all

# Read and parsed by systemd-localed. It's probably wise not to edit this file
# manually too freely.
Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "system-keyboard"
        MatchIsKeyboard "on"
        Option "XkbLayout" "no"
        Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
        Option "XkbOptions" "compose:rwin"
EndSection

It indicates that it is set by systemd-localed but I don't have systemd-localed on my system.

Code: Select all

thomas@localhost /etc % systemd-
systemd-analyze                 systemd-loginctl
systemd-ask-password            systemd-machine-id-setup
systemd-cat                     systemd-notify
systemd-cgls                    systemd-nspawn
systemd-cgtop                   systemd-run
systemd-coredumpctl             systemd-stdio-bridge
systemd-delta                   systemd-tmpfiles
systemd-detect-virt             systemd-tty-ask-password-agent
systemd-inhibit

Have they forgotten to put it in there?

Hm I wonder if it is my openbox setup that might be causing this.
In Mageia the content of the menu.xml file suddenly turns up as clutter in the console. :think:

I have updated OMA and the locale settings in the terminal are still bonkers.
Besides that everything works so it is no showstopper. But it is annoying so I had a look at /etc/locale/nb_NO.UTF-8/

And there the LC_CTYPE@ blinks red and indicates a broken symlink when listed with ls -l:

Code: Select all

LC_CTYPE-> ../UTF-8/LC_CTYPE

That might have something to do with it....

Hi Buddy's,

it's comes maybe thereof,
to be they are not really hackers,
more Guy-spezialists and konsole typer *bg*
you should login in the bugtracker and report this issue as bug, because,
the sound works also not really in the prompt and the next thing it's,
if we jump in the prompt, mus we use strg/ctrl+alt+F2 because on F1 it's the Xorg
on run with kdm .. or an other windowmanager .. there on 2014 what i use at moment.
but i don't know how it's if it's fresh install , where the xorg run now , on strg/ctrl +F1 or on F7
how ever, something is not right in the Bush .. but so far works OMLx not bad,
want say really well up to nfs :whistle:
and the good thing is, Per Orwin works together in one pot together with OMLx peoples .. !
.. and that's saying what +1

best regards
Blacky

Yes that is good +1
Regarding the bug; I have already reported it.
:A

Long time ago.. but it is hard to confirm since nobody else seems to have Norwegian locale.

This thing has potential but it needs a larger user base.

Mageia is king of the Mandriva spinoff's at the moment. It is good quality and stable without much surprises.

Aber es wäre schon gut wenn Openmandriva wieder Fuss fassen könnte ;)

On IRC I got the tip to copy /usr/share/locale/UTF-8 to /etc/locale so I did

Code: Select all

sudo cp -avr /usr/share/locale/UTF-8 /etc/locale

And that did not fix it
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Then I got the tip to symlink /usr/share/locale/ISO-8859-1 to /etc/locale/ISO-8859-1
So I did a

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /usr/share/locale/ISO-8859-1  /etc/locale/ISO-8859-1

And that did not fix it either :Doh:

The content of /etc/locale is now

Code: Select all

ISO-8859-1@ UTF-8/ en_ZM/ nb NO/ nb_NO.UTF-8/ nn_NO/ nn_NO.UTF-8/

I have no idea where en_ZM came from and I don't want nn_NO in there either :confused
