Bored today

Postby gnuuser » 09 Nov 2022, 16:31

Was a bit bored today.
Weather was too crappy to redo my antenna, wifey was watching her soaps.
So i built a homebrew sideswipe key for the morse code out of some aluminum angle, and a blade from a feeler guage.
Works quite well for an experiment.
Counter measured at 28 wpm. A whole lot faster than the straight key.
I gotta finish relearning my morse

Morse... i wonder if there is a keyboard that can be used as a send/recieve without learning the code.

Yes it can depending on the software compatibility with the transmitter.
But learning the code is not hard as you learn the sound pattern of the characters once you learn by sound it's surprising how fast you can send.

I was thinking more in the like in form of sound. Like the old ways on modems and phone lines.

I wonder if a laptop and using the speakers / mic will do the trick

Some radio interfaces for different radios use the computers sound card and line in or mic jack along with software
While the computer does the translation work, the radio transceiver actually sends the signal.
