Want to understand the USA and the EU? Read Saul Alinsky and the book "Rules for the Radicals". Is very short (under 50 pages); all will make sense on why politicians do what they do.

I heard someone saying that if you want to spread Socialism and Communism, you need to start in the Universities.

I believe in small Gov, Free Enterprise and Market Fragmentation. Oligarchy, Cronyism and Globalism disguised as Free Trade/Enterprise, is NOT free Enterprise and that is what we have now.

Yes, an old thread, but bingo. Technology will just create more privacy invasion.
It's going to take an all-out civil war to stop it.
But then I'm not afraid of them. I'm an anarchist.
I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.

what scares me is the fact that i may need a pacemaker and those things can be programmed via bluetooth
to think you could be at the mercy of anyone with a smart phone
some jerk will find the app that will allow them to link to a pacemaker and hold the patient for ransom.

Yes that is a good point. The technology races on and the time for testing cannot be that long.

The problem is... most people think that tech will save the world. Tech is just a tool and use the right tool for the task on hand. People also comes with stupid ideas and scramble to make a market for it; Apple is good at those sort of things. Sometimes, the simplest things are the solution. Some like... You want privacy? Get off of Social Media; quit posting crap about yourself. Very simple and easy to do.

That will help ...and Google will still know everything about you because you searched....

Yes it is important that people do what ever they can and don't give up despite the overwhelming surveillance capacity and willingness.
Free speech is threatened.

Snowden recently received the Ossietzky Prize from Norwegian PEN - in Moscow.
He has spoken freely and received lots of prices for it and is persecuted for it.

It is clear that he was Whistle-blowing about criminal behavior from the government which was confirmed later on by the courts and yet he is treated as the criminal for telling about it.

That does not work wonders fro freedom of speech since you only have it if the government likes it....

Here is the A-1 issue, I think.
Technology was never meant in the beginning for the things it's being used for now.
It was not meant to run whole businesses, and wasn't meant to run the gubment, either. It was only meant as a tool for the common man and woman, and for disabled and business people who really need it as a tool only.
These days it is not used correctly. It's used for mostly evil purposes, and is not being used for the people, rather than against them.
I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.
No gods, no masters.
