Description:

The Ground Station Technician will be a member of the Programmed Depot Maintenance Team performing Level 2 maintenance actions for the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) remote tracking stations. This position requires extensive travel, some on same day notice, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Primary responsibilities will include performing electronic checks and alignments on the ground station and communications equipment at the Air Force Remote Tracking Stations and Control Nodes that comprise the AFSCN. Some of the duties include: troubleshooting, repairing, testing and aligning bit syncs, link analyzers, and AMPEX digital recording systems. Additionally, the ground station tech will be responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and testing of the computer controlled Remote Tracking Station Block Change equipment.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology or related field, or military technical training program, or completion of technical institute program and 2 years of related experience.
  • In Lieu of Formal Education, minimum requirement will be High School plus 4 years direct related experience.
  • Must be a United States citizen in order to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Specific contract requirements regarding education and experience will prevail.
  • Travel is required up to 75% of the time.
  • Availability for worldwide travel is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Must be able to perform routine and corrective maintenance on: Digital data, data processing, and digital communication orientated equipment.
  • Must possess an electronics background in Analog, Digital, and Radio Frequency (RF).
  • Must be familiar with or knowledgeable of test equipment: signal generators, spectrum analyzers,
    O-scope, power meters, multi-meters, attenuators and other test equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot system down to the line replaceable unit (LRU) with little or no guidance.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Systems Administration processes and procedures.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Air Force Technical Orders (AFTO’s), schematics, engineering
    drawings or commercial manuals.
  • Must be able to take direction and perform system modifications, installations, task orders, and operations and maintenance of equipment or systems of equipment at all Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) locations.
  • Must be familiar with safe climbing practices and be able to work at heights of approximately 150 feet.
  • Must be able to pass a climbing physical and obtain a climbing certification.
  • Must be able to respond to Urgent (UDLM) and Emergency Depot Level Maintenance (EDLM) activities as required per our contract.
  • Must be able to follow PDM plan and perform all functions within the plan.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft suite to include, Excel, Power Point, and Word.
  • Should possess strong oral, written and communication skills to include technical terminology.
  • Ability to perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Working knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) Theory and signal flow is a plus.
  • Familiarization with MS Windows (NT, XP, 2000, Vista, 7), Unix, and Linux is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) equipment is desired.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude who accepts personal responsibility.
  • Familiarization with Air Force Technical Orders is a plus.

Thought so. I sure am not, and will be leaving the states Dec. 23rd anyway. Just leaving behind the tidbits I can - who knows, it may help someone left behind here.
