If Nokia should have made a decision today it is less than likely that the decision would have been the same. It is always a precise science to judge afterwords - but two years ago Microsoft were pretty sure that they would be able to hold on to their world domination. And Nokia desperately needed a part of that.
So this would be a good time to cut losses and go for Android or even continue with Symbian....
The CEO of Nokia - Stephen Elop - maintains that Nokia will continue to compete with Lumia and Windows 8. His dilemma is clear: He cannot officially loose confidence in Lumia/Windows as long as it is in the market.
We make adjustments as we go. But it's very clear to us that in today's war of ecosystems, we've made a very clear decision to focus on Windows Phone with our Lumia product line,
And Nokia may have no choice since they pretty much went "all in" without a plan B.
A recipe for disaster? The writing is on the Wall: Google is taking market shares with their Linux solution in the Laptop market thus forcing Microsoft to defend themselves in their traditional strongpoint areas .
It is hard to concentrate on Smartphones then..And Nokia kind of gambled on that pull effect from Microsoft.
The stockholders are getting impatient and expressing it in no uncertain terms:
"You're a nice guy ... and the leadership team is doing its best, but clearly, it's not enough," one shareholder, Hannu Virtanen, told Elop. "Are you aware that results are what matter? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Please switch to another road," he said.
So that would indicate that not even the Nokia shareholders belive in Windows 8 on their smartphones - Elop might just as well switch to Android right now.
If the stockholders don't like lumia with Windows 8 - who else is going to buy it?
Microsoft will lose market shares and almost be non existent in the smartphone market, so this is bad news for them too.
The stockholders will not be willing to let that Nokia-ship sink - and that probably means that Elop will be applying for a job at Google or Apple soon..
In many ways he has been let down by his former employer - Microsoft - since their "Everything at once" vision for Windows 8 has turned out to be closer to "Nothing at all"..
