gweather -HowTo in Gnome3-shell

Postby viking60 » 11 Jun 2011, 12:01

Install:
gnome-shell-extension-weather-git

Restart your shell:
<ALT>+<F2> + r

now it is centered on the panel bar. BUT you get some obscure location so we have to fix that:
Go to:
http://isithackday.com/geoplanet-explorer/index.php
And enter your location. This will give a page with woeid codes. Copy the code for your location!
(Special service for dedanna: The code for Portales is 2475566)
Now hit <ALT>+<F2> and enter dconf-editor

expand org
expand gnome
expand shell
expand extensions
and select weather
paste in the woeid that you copied in the last line. (puh)

Do not enter a city name in the first line: It will display/override the name but the weather will still be wrong!

Does this work for fallback mode, too?

No, when I go into Fallback mode the weather is gone. :(

Okay, thanks. I'm wondering if putting gweather in startup might get it to go... will try it after a while.

Nope. The question is what to put into startup.

Code: Select all

.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rocks.net : 13:44:41 : ~ ]:.
:) whereis gweather
gweather:
.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rocks.net : 13:44:49 : ~ ]:.
:) pacman -Ss gweather
extra/libgweather 3.0.2-1 [2.15 MB] [installed]
Provides access to weather information from the net
.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rocks.net : 13:45:07 : ~ ]:.
:) whereis libgweather
libgweather: /usr/share/libgweather
.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rocks.net : 13:45:14 : ~ ]:.
:) ls /usr/share/libgweather
---->locations.dtd  Locations.xml
.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rocks.net : 13:45:21 : ~ ]:.
:)

I really don't think locations.dtd or Locations.xml would be the executable... lol...

How to do it in fallback mode:

Alt+right click combination on a panel

Go to "Add to panel", and then "Weather Report". It will then add to the panel. The problem is, it isn't working, at least not for me. It will sit there updating forever and a day, just to land with "Retrieval failed", no matter what location you set it to. :(
