Numlock not turned on in Slim

Postby viking60 » 16 May 2011, 10:45

I had a problem with turning on numlock in /etc/slim.conf. This is annoying if you do not have a led to indicate if it is on or not.
The part in /etc/slim.conf looked like this:

Code: Select all

# Activate numlock when slim starts. Valid values: on|off
  numlock             on

To fix it change it to this:

Code: Select all

# Activate numlock when slim starts. Valid values: on|off
numlock             on

Can't tell the difference? Neither could I, but the conf file comes with a space in front of "numlock" when you install slim. Remove this space and numlock is turned on !
Sometimes it is as easy as that.

Works fine here in Arch - had set up slim some months ago, it worked off the bat, and I haven't had to change anything since. Don't recall if I had to edit a space or not.

**SLIM DOES NOT WORK IN FEDORA, BTW**

Ok now I have to test slim in fedora of course :coffee_cup:
Edit yes I see what you mean there is no background for the Login pic so the theme is gone. It should be in /usr/share/slim/themes so downloading and installing a theme and setting it in slim.conf could fix it (lake is good).
I have trouble in changing to tty1 in VB so I am fubared. :-D

Actually, it has to be completely re-symlinked to the backgrounds in the actual folder for them (whatever that is; that's the one I can't recall).

Yup It is fair to say that slim does not work in Fedora. Not in 14 and not in 15. Poor job there. I thought those guys were the top gurus. :liar:
