Here is the latest on the TV Time application.

I filed a bug on their site and I got this reply.

tvtime | arecord -D hw:1,0 -r 32000 -c 2 -f S16_LE | aplay -

So it "works"...

If I run the command as root and turn TV Time off, the Audio comes back.
If I run the command as an user and exit the console, next time that I start TV Time it has no Audio and have to run the command again.
If I reboot the system the command has to be run again for the Audio to come up.

Question... How I make the command permanent?

Make a script is all I can think:

1) Start kwrite as regular user

2) Enter the command to it

3) Save the file as tvtime.sh or something like that

4) Link it to your desktop and use it to start tvtime

Here is what I did on the Mandriva forum

I made a text file like this...

1) Right click on desktop and choose new text file
2) Paste the command on that file
3) Save it with a file extension sh
4) Right click on the icon and check the box that says executable under the permission tab.
5) Cut the file and save it under my home directory
6) Right click on the Star and choose menu editor
7) Go to Sound & Video and highlight the TV Time Icon.
8) On the right side under advance, click the folder icon on the line that says Command
9) Choose the sh file on the home directory.
10) Save and exit.

Now TV Time works each time and turns off when exit out.

Much better than firing it up each time it reboots and turns completely off on demand. All pretty much done via GUI Very Happy

We have a high definition television set and are looking to get basic cable without the box. I also have an older T.V. in the bedroom that I’d like to watch cable on too. It’s about ten years old and weighs a ton, but the picture still comes in okay. We’re not up on all of this new technology stuff. Basically we want to know if we’re going to have to get a box or a converter for that old T.V. I think get a USB TV tuner will be a good way to solve it.

For years my Computer was my TV, Stereo and Computer itself. A multimedia system for my room with an 19 In CRT monitor.

Now days LCD and LED TV are really cheap and you do not need to have the biggest on the planet. Also has the lowest Power Consumption that will pay itself during the length of its Live Cycle. They have a VGA or HDMI or both adapters that you can hook your computer to it and becomes one huge monitor. All you need is a Wireless Keyboard and Mouse and you are good to go.


On the Computers TV Tuners, Hauppauge does Ok, when they had the BT878 Chipset (I think that is the one) it worked like a Champ even with LIRC (remote control) that was back on the Mandriva 2005 days. Now I have an USB HD type and it took a while to get it to work right. Hauppauge does not support Linux so is a roll of the dices to find which Tuner works.

I have one single wish for Linux and is for the Hardware Manufacturers to start supporting Linux by providing the Drivers to the Developers to make it or or by doing itself and certify their Hardware that will run on Linux. That will be so nice when you build or buy parts for your system you know what works and have a really great experience.


Just on the side....

The future of TV is on the Cloud. At my house we got rid of the Converter Box since the TV now days is becoming so accessible via Web. We watch Netflix and Hulu Plus as paid service where we can pick and choose what we want. CBS, ABC, NBC are about Free and they re-broadcast their shows (CBS is the best when becomes for Streaming Videos) also has less commercials and you can stop and watch later what you were watching. We are to the point that Air TV and actual Cable we are not even watching any more, just Streaming Video. If you have a PS3 you can watch Hulu, Netflix and even YouTube. Some Blue Ray players has the same Capabilities and they are under $200 for a decent one.

It would be nice if the PS3 has a better Browser, just sucks the one that comes. My next TV will have a PC connection to watch whatever I want.
