Blackberry Z10 and Q10

Postby viking60 » 01 Feb 2013, 11:25

ImageThe fight for the third spot in the mobile phone market is on. Blackberry have launched Z10 and Q10.
They are not revolutionary but good. That means that they will probably not be able to disturb the two market leaders Apple and Andriod much.
But that is not the goal either.

Blackberry needs this product to fly if they want to stay in the market and they will be happy to stay ahead of Microsoft. The new 10-OS has multitasking and gives a nice functionality, like the hub where you can check your mail or social media from anywhere in the system. There are some signs of desperation in the Blackberry marketing:
They have made Alicia Keys "Creative director"!

Bringing in celebrities like that is an indication of a company making it's "last stand". Still; by the looks of it Blackberry has made a good product with a new OS that could live up to the task.

I saw a couple of news "blurbs" on tv about the new Blackberry. The talking heads seemed to say, "nice but not a contender". Also, RIM is changing their name to Blackberry. Another blurb was a high percentage of iPhone users pay over $100/mo. for a cellphone plan, more like 50% of Android users, and Blackberry is among the lower-cost in terms of monthly bills. When I first started looking at phones, Blackberry was well-represented in corporate circles. I wonder what's happening to that? I hope they will recover but am a bit skeptical. I just wish HP/WebOS would produce an update for my Treo 755p. :berserk2

I think the odds are slim for Palm OS.
But that was the one that set the standard not to many years ago. If you do not innovate in that business then you do not stand still - you move backwards.
