Merkel had to stop Aixtron's takeover on US instruction

The federal government has apparently stopped the Aixtron takeover by a Chinese company on the instructions of the USA. The reason was supposed to be military.

The planned takeover of the chip maker Aixtron by a Chinese investor has been stopped by an intervention of the US secret services. The Americans had reported investigations that Aixtron products could also be used for military purposes, the Handelsblatt reported on Wednesday, citing German secret services.Washington is fearing that China is using chips from Aixtron in its nuclear program. The Federal Ministry of Economics did not want to comment on this.
