China hacking US Federals

Postby viking60 » 05 Jun 2015, 08:53

According to "anonymous American sources" (read NSA) China is hacking 4 million US Federals.
Other anonymous US Officials confirm that this attack is state sponsored,
Other U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing the ongoing investigation, identified the hackers as being state-sponsored.

The OPM is the Human resource department for the Federal Government has found zero day tools that can discover these attacks better since they are popular targets.

“Certainly, OPM is a high-value target,” Donna Seymour, the agency’s chief information officer, said in an interview. “We have a lot of information about people, and that is something that our adversaries want.”

That is the downside of storing the lives of your own citizens - every move - Salary - sexual preferences (Well you do visit that gay club every wednesday at 8pm) - Political preferences checked during various clearances ++++

They have a lot of data for sure - more than you probably know...

“China is everywhere,” said Austin Berglas, head of cyber investigations at K2 Intelligence and a former top cyber official at the FBI’s New York field office. “They’re looking to gain social and economic and political advantage over the United States in any way they can. The easiest way to do that is through theft of intellectual property and theft of sensitive information.”

So here we are then.

The US Government is against cyberattacks and want them to stop. Those guys steal and are thieves. That is an admirable attitude.

If foreign governments would feel free to hack the systems of other governments and spy on their officials and even their head of states - where would it end?

This is a scare tactic to approve funding for the creation of regulation, oversee, overreach, bureaucracy and agency creations.

The worse and easier to break is physical security. According to the article, Chinese hackers are everywhere. How many Chinese are employed by the same companies? By the way, does it has to be Chinese to be a hacker?

The article is pure propaganda

That stuff will never work - I have tried it so many times and it never does.
....
I have no problem with believing the American agencies that the Chinese are spying. But that is good for agencies on both sides .. for funding +1
So both the Chinese and the American agencies are very happy with the Cyberwar.

It keeps them busy and money flows their way. Taxpayers in both countries may have other needs but this will surely get priority.

They will take every opportunity to tell how bad it is - and they will be right....because they make it bad.

A similar story was with John McAfee.

He started the virus scare that became the foundation of his empire; made him millions.

For example, I still run my Xp computer with no Anti Virus and is fine.

On the way this work is...

Scare the people, grease the politicians and approve the funding.

Another example is Ebola; where is it now? Millions of $$$ alocated to fight it; just before the elections last year.

Someone came out with a study, that people forget after 6 weeks. So there is some called the 6 Week Cycle that sounds like nut case term but all you have to do is watch the news, if you want to debunk it. For agencies to stay relevant and keep the cash flow, they come out from bogus news to/or actual events. People see that (6 Week Cycle) as, cannot be true, we do not do such things, we are the good guys, will come to light (free press), we do not control the press. Just think for a minute, with all these threats, how come, after millions of flying miles over the world, not a single attack? Is well known the infamous Airport Scanners does not work. Is nothing but nuisance and to avoid the nonsense, you can purchase a "Pre Check" (fancy word for extortion money) so you do not need to be scanned and take the fast lane.

Is all a money grab scheme/scam.

What the news says about stealing data?

Listen to this from News Hour on PBS, begging for more legislation and money.

But wait, did they say Current and Former Federal Employees Stealing Data? :greetings

Funny how they switch it around with the Hacker word....

This is what happens when gubment officials sit around and read porn all day instead of work. I think they're all just trying to get us to be afraid, be very very afraid of the internet. Fear! Fear! Fear!
What better way to control the masses?
According to a Wall Street Journal report, the breach was indeed discovered in April. But according to sources who spoke to the WSJ's Damian Paletta and Siobhan Hughes, it was in fact discovered during a sales demonstration of a network forensics software package called CyFIR by its developer, CyTech Services. "CyTech, trying to show OPM how its cybersecurity product worked, ran a diagnostics study on OPM’s network and discovered malware was embedded on the network," Paletta and Hughes reported.

Not for this kid. I learned a long time ago, if it looks like Windows, runs like Windows, and smells like Windows... it is Windows. Even the ReactOS site touts that it's designed based on Windows NT:
ReactOS® is a free open source operating system based on the best design principles found in the Windows NT® architecture (Windows versions such as Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 are built on Windows NT architecture). Written completely from scratch, ReactOS is not a Linux based system, and shares none of the UNIX architecture.

I haven't seen anyone else say anything here right out, but I sure will. Open source or not, I didn't get into Linux to get Microsoft.
I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.
