Here is a story of how a journalist at The Telegraph was hacked.
She used Windows and the background info was gathered by using Canvas Fingerprints. She did also open email attachments and unpacked a rar file which is a real security risk.
As always it is the sum of things that constitutes the danger.
So it makes sense to eliminate as many of those "things" as possible to avoid enabling.
