Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 issues with Linux
So I would have to build it. That's what I thought.

Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 issues with Linux
I am suffering from the impression that you might get it out of the box with a distro running Kernel 4.2 (Manjaro can do it).
But with Mageia it seems that ndiswraper is the best bet.

Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 issues with Linux
Yes. It's what it asks for, it's what it wants... I could try giving it to it and see if it will fly... just don't know if I want to be arsed right now. It would be a learning experience however, it's not something I've had to do before. Everything up until when my netbook crashed, just worked, wireless and all.
When I was in school, I installed Arch on it off of wireless at school. I installed Linux Mint at school off the wireless. I installed Mageia3 off the wireless at the library, and the damn funny thing about it was... IIRC, that was Atheros (but it wasn't Qualcomm... wonder what the difference is)!
That's why this is so frustrating. I'm used to Linux just working out of the box. It always had before, and I mean always.
Granted, it's been what, two years since... at least...
With, or without having to update? Cannae update without the wireless. This is the problem.

You can install 4.2 with
Code: Select all
sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux42
You can list the kernels on your system with:
Code: Select all
mhwd-kernel -li
In my case that gives:
Code: Select all
mhwd-kernel -li
Currently running: 4.2.0-1-MANJARO (linux42)
The following kernels are installed in your system:
* linux314
* linux41
* linux42
To replace the current kernel with 4.2:
Code: Select all
sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux42 rmc
Manjaro will automatically configure the new kernel for you, ready for immediate use.
You can also handle this from the Manjaro Settings Manager:
You will need to have an Internet connection of course. I think the default Kernel for Arch and Manjaro is still 4.1

Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 issues with Linux
Yep. Therein lies the problem. I don't have a wired connection any more. I'd need to go buy an ethernet cable, and right now there's issues with the bank.
I'm also having this issue with the Manjaro stable installer.

Your card is supported by the ath10k driver it is mentioned in the list.
Firmware API 2
Embedding both firmware and otp images into same file firmware-2.bin. Firmware meta data provided through FW IE. Added in commit 1a222435a dated Sep 27 2013, for Linux 3.13.
I'm wondering if this might be a bit tricky? Just re-read the page, and noticed this.

I dunno
Kernel 4.1 will probably work with your card -sort of

In general I will say as Jeremy Clarkson would have said:

Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 issues with Linux
So, if I were to install say, Mageia 5 because I'm completely sick up and fed with Windows, and used the ndiswrapper method,,, to mechanically do this, I would put the driver on another usb flash stick, separate from the one I'm using to install, because I can't add anything to the install disk.
Correct?

Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 issues with Linux
Yup at least not wrong.
What you need from the windows driver are the .inf and .sys files.
If those are in an exe you need cabextract to dissect that exe file I think Mageia has it in the repos.

Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 issues with Linux
Well, then there's this.
If I'm supposed to have the .bin as well, I sure don't know which one, unless it's qca61x420.bin.
Granted, this was on the Mageia live KDE DVD.
