Ut-ooh. Guake issues (Mageia 3) [self-solved]

Postby dedanna1029 » 22 Jul 2013, 05:04

I noticed that Guake wasn't loading on startup all of a sudden, so tried loading it from terminal once in the desktop. Terminal came up with this:

Code: Select all

.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rockz.net : 21:52:35 : ~ ]:.
:( guake

** (guake:9761): WARNING **: Binding 'F12' failed!

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/bin/guake", line 1429, in <module>
    if not main():
  File "/bin/guake", line 1373, in main
    instance = Guake()
  File "/bin/guake", line 651, in __init__
    notification.show()
glib.GError: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.Notifications was not provided by any .service files
.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rockz.net : 21:52:46 : ~ ]:.

... and I can't get to Guake Preferences, either, from the XFCE menu to change the binding.

Any clue what to do here? Anyone know the terminal command for Guake Preferences?

Thanks.

Never mind. I've just come to find that XFCE has its own drop-down terminal, that uses the same key, F12. I'm going to have to sort what key(s) to use for what. I prefer Guake, so...

Hm strange I use quake and F12 worked fine here. But I use Arch and Manjaro so it might be a Mageia thing.
It should be possible to assign another key by right-clicking the guake icon in the tray.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

It was an XFCE thing. :)

I went ahead and left the XFCE drop-down terminal as it was, with F12, and changed Guake to F9. Cool beans. Now I haz two drop-down terminals. :)
