Fedora!

Postby dedanna1029 » 14 Mar 2010, 23:14

I love Fedora! Would love to see your comments, views, etc. on it! I'm about to reinstall on a secondary hard drive, maybe will go Fedora 12 this time (haven't had chance with it yet).

Well Yes it's cutting edge and I finally managed to get Fedora 12 into virtualbox. This was somewhat challenging since Fedora 12 has no xorg.conf.

But I just cannot develope that much enthusiasm for Fedora. A bit to much on the edge for me,

Can an xorg.conf be created for it?

Yes it can be created so there is no problem. Just a tiny shock when I used my comfortable routine and it wasn't there.

Okay. When I reinstall I'll keep that in mind. I really can't picture a distro running with an nvidia card without xorg.conf - xorg.conf directs it all if you know what I mean. Keyboard, video, and mouse. I'd be freaked without one myself.

Fedora is awesome, I love this distro! Used Fedora 11 for a while, and looooved Fedora 12. I've been playing with the idea of Fedora 12 KDE. Yum sometimes is a tad slow compared to apt-get, but Fedora was really the distro that helped me get used to the terminal for stuff other than the simple menial tasks.

I love Fedora. I started using it when I had to learn it for my job on campus, and switched to it from Ubuntu. Fedora allows me to do more and requires me to do more work and research which helps me learn more about Linux. Now, do to something in my laptop, I can only run Fedora (not sure if this is good or bad)

Since you guys love it so much here is how you create Xorg.conf:
As root open a terminal and type:

Code: Select all

 Xorg -configure :1

This will create a default xorg.conf in /root/xorg.conf.new which you can copy to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

If you are using Radeon or Nvidia drivers from rpmfusion repository alternatively type:

Code: Select all

su -
yum install system-config-display
system-config-display

(Thats what I did)
This script will automatically create an xorg.conf in its correct location.

Nice! Thanks! It will come in handy later this week (that is, if I don't get on it this evening after work).
