Ok, where do I start....
My mum in law have been doing all the updates on Mageia 5. She never rebooted for the new Kernels to take place. I rebooted on the latest update. The problem that she had and still have is the Laptop seems to recognize the Wireless NIC but is not able to detect any wireless routers.
Says that is connecting and fails.
This is where my talent runs out; not sure where to start took. Removed the NIC, cleaned contacts and reseated, just in case. Removed and readded via MCC. Seems to find it but looks like is turned off. Checked the WiFi on/off button, cannot turn off, looks like is stuck at the on position.

Long list and all says connected.
Re: Wireless NIC Kaput !!!
OK let us optimistically move on - how about:
(You need to be root)
Code: Select all
traceroute -I bjoernvold.com

What the duce????
"bash: traceroute: command not found"
Looking for man files...
"No manual entry for traceroute"

Re: Wireless NIC Kaput !!!
Ah caramba - it is not there by default so you need to install it.
But I guess you cannot if your network is fubared..
What happens if you simply ping bjoernvold.com?

Re: Wireless NIC Kaput !!!
I can use the RJ45 connector, no issues there. I cannot join any WiFi, cannot see any of them.
Feels like the NIC is there without the RF transmission or like been away from any WiFi.
Here is a new thing... I can use the RJ45 connection, can go in the world. No able to update via MCC; error message comes up.
I think is a series of updates without reboothing.

Re: Wireless NIC Kaput !!!
Lets check your "card" with
or even better with
Then lets check the interface with:
If you see your wifi interface there then do a
(where "wlanO" is the interface that you found)
....Stopping there for now if we still are out of luck we will check the Kernel messages for firmware being loaded....
Code: Select all
lspci -k
Code: Select all
inxi -n
Then lets check the interface with:
Code: Select all
ip link
If you see your wifi interface there then do a
Code: Select all
ip link set wlan0 up

Deleted and reloaded the OS. Nothing important so is ok to load from scratch and the OS is up to date.
