Jolla Ltd. is an independent Finland based smartphone product company which continues the excellent work that Nokia started with MeeGo. The Jolla team is formed by directors and core professionals from Nokia's MeeGo N9 organisation, together with some of the best minds working on MeeGo in the communities.

Nokia created something wonderful - the world's best smartphone product. It deserves to be continued, and we will do that together with all the bright and gifted people contributing to the MeeGo success story.

Together with international private investors and partners, Jolla Ltd. will design, develop and sell new MeeGo based smartphones. The Jolla team consists of a substantial number of MeeGo's core engineers and directors, and is aggressively hiring the top MeeGo talent to contribute to the next generation smartphone production.

They Will have a better chance of succeeding on the smartphones than Microsoft (or Gnome3). But they will always be behind Google and Apple. I think Nokia blew it when they got embraced by Microsoft.
Meego was in the position to be "Android" and Nokia was the biggest company in the world. Nowadays Nokia is about to be "Extinguished". It will be interesting to se what Jolla can do.
They are way behind on Apps and it is hard to see how they will be able to compensate for that.

Yeah, it's a wait-and-see thing. Thought it was worth a mention though.

I've sent off a direct question to Jolla to see if meego can be installed on my now-old Samsung Gravity Smart phone, and if it can be installed to my netbook as well. We'll see. Their progress is seeming more and more interesting to me as of late.
