Yes it has been like that for some time.
You can install Linux with USB too but as a medium it is way more insecure than the DVD. These days that seems to be an active policy to gain control over computers.
From a security aspect; USB slots should be filled with gum..only gum.
But there we are; so the next thing will be to make that USB boot other things than Windows.

Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Thank the gods I have a good cd/dvd drive on the new lappy, but for convenience I really like the USB method.
