I admit that it is rare for me to consider using an Ubuntu box but I think this means it is about time to delete any and all 'buntu ISO's for good.

humm, because you realize, to be the factory behind *buntu ever comes more up and they works
together with other factory and at last, becomes *buntu ever more commerce .. like Mandrake=>Mandriva

the fail on some grate Systems, they need Money for stay existend because they are fatter and fully food
and it's like an hamsterweel , they becomes ever more fad and need more money ,
because the load of commercialism continues to increase because,
they who working in his job and want make more better for more become money
and therewith increase the costs.. you see ..
And this is the problem if they makes fully commercial with an factory behind ..

and this is the bad on *buntu the opposites, if that is not now dare keeps, in that case goes *buntu down and becomes putting down.. or something..

As long as it is out in the open it is OK.
When they are doing hidden stuff, making you the product, thats when it really starts to suck.

I think Canonical reacted to the pressure and removed the default dirty actions though.

It is not wrong making money on Linux as long as the deal is fair (it will ensure further development of this brilliant OS).

I would not dream of using Ubuntu Unity it is just not good enough. Debian is a good alternative for the *buntu people.

I am curious what the can accomplish on the smartphone market though (what might be good on a smartphone does not have to be good on a desktop).

I don't think it is okay. It is a sellout. Is this going to put Amazon in a position to start influencing decisions about Ubuntu development? What happens when Amazon threatens to pull its sponsorship? There are Linux distros that are able to survive without having to do things like this so it is not necessary, it is a choice.

FYI for all, the relationship between Canonical and Amazon has been going for quite a few years now, is nothing new. It's even been discussed on this forum before more than once. I think R_Head was the spearhead of the discussions on it.

So, uninstall it or whatever package brings it to you if you don't like it. That's the beauty of Linux, is choice, even with the Canonical bastards. You're not supporting the relationship if you're not using it.

Viking is right in that Linux needs money on the whole, but I will say to be careful as to how you donate to it. Give money to the devs of the distributions, not to the corporations trying to take them over.

Run a search on Amazon - they sell Ubuntu btw.

Do not take me wrong, love Amazon. I have Prime and buy lots of goodies from them at great prices. But, and is a bit BUT...! Keep it that way, nothing more than a store. The is ok to snoop on you to serve you better is a load of crap.
