Not only did HP keep their promise to make WebOS open source they are heavily supporting it by hiring 50 engineers! and paying handsomly too. Palm did have a lot of success with it so it could have a chance. You can get the build environment here And the source code is here |

Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Yes this is a positive move. I bet it will be better than Win8 but it is hard to compete against Adroid and iOS these days.

I think they have enough killer patents to throw a wrench on the Apple's and MS's machinery.
