Finally the Kernel with the superduper speed patch is out. Things will go smoother and you will be able to even surf faster on the internet. No need to patch manually anymore.

Where does this sound familiar from? Oh, that's right. WINDOWS!

Que?
The speed patch is something that most speed junkies have implemented already . According to the description somewhere else in this forum. But not all distros could take it -Like Mandriva.
Mandriva Kernel doesnt have cgroup support. It can be added of course but it just makes the entire procedure that much more complicated.
So in Mandriva 2012 it will probably be implemented. Not sure how Mageia is doing with this....
Anyway it should be part of the Kernel and not patched - so this is a good thing.
Edit:
That reminds me I have not patched my kernel on reinstalling Arch - so I just did it again and the result is amazing.
I tested my i7 superduperbox with Mandriva 64 bit
Against my old Arch 32bit box:
And Opera and Iron pop up faster in the old Arch box and http://wmteam.de loads eaqually fast on both computers. http://anfyteam.com loads faster in the old Arch box. I started them at the exact same time and they were not in any cache and in the same browsers.
It could be that Arch is that much faster, but I think the kernel patch is the main reason.
The Mandriva box should normally wipe the floor with that old Pentium D processor.

"No need to manually patch the kernel any more"
Yeah, just update it and let them do it all for you, just like a Windows box.

Yes well there is that
But for Joe Average that is a good thing. And his opinion counts - even if he does not understand the technology behind it.
