Firefox Quantum will be 2 x faster

Postby viking60 » 03 Oct 2017, 00:52

Mozilla has developed a new engine for Firefox which makes it two times faster than any other Firefox,
It is even faster than Chrome on several websites.

So having optimized the speed/memory this is one to look forward too.

Interesting... they need that. FF became so bloated the speed is gone. I am using Chromium instead because of the speed.

Yes it looks like FF will be up to that competition now...I am confident that Mozilla is doing less spying than Google too so I hope this one will be as good as Chromium.

If I am not mistaken.... Is Chromium the Open Source type of Chrome?

Yes. Chromium is Chrome without the "registration number" - the unique number sent to Google on installation and without some DRM spying.
This means that Netflix will work on Chrome but not on Chromium because it does not have Chromes DRM.

In other matters they are pretty much identical.

Well Chromium does spy too unless you install a spy free version like Iridium or Brave.
....
Firefox has reached the Manjaro repos now so I have had the pleasure of testing it.
.
It is snappier than FF used to be and up there with Chrome/Chromium. It also has the manual config options in about;config that lets me further enhance security.

The plugins are plenty so FF Quantum can be a really secure browser - I like that!

Remember though that Brave is faster than Chrome ,,,and I doubt that FF is faster......
It beats Chrome in several tests though:
:A
First up in the regimen of synthetic benchmark tests was WebXPRT 2015, a test that is made up of six HTML5- and JavaScript-based workloads that cover a range of basic, everyday tasks. Firefox Quantum was the winner here, with a score of 491 (from an average of five runs, with the highest and lowest results tossed out) to Chrome's 460 — but that wasn't quite the whole story. Whereas Firefox performed noticeably better on the Organize Album and Explore DNA Sequencing workloads, Chrome proved more adept at Photo Enhancement and Local Notes, demonstrating that the two browsers have different strengths.

And it sure takes less memory.
....
I think I like this one! If I can make that unnecessary top bar go away then I think I will make FF my regular browser (again). This is an impressive comeback,

Brave and Iridium seem to be good options for you..
Iridium with Touch VPN and webRTC leak prevent, DNScrypt and scriptblock + canvas defender is very safe - I have tested it.
