Dual boot Win 10 and Linux?

Postby dedanna1029 » 16 Aug 2015, 05:44

I'm reading in Linux groups that a system that's upgraded to Win 10 will not dual boot with Linux. Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

Thanks.

It was possible with the tech preview
:A

But having Windows 10 on your computer may well lead to that Linux get fubared later on since it can "flash the BIOS" during regular update.

Windows 10 is a remote control OS (if that is a Microsoft strategy or a NSA "request" is hard to say).

Microsoft loves Linux now so maybe asking them can help...
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

I think before I upgrade I'm also going to make a boot disk .iso... I have a proggie that will do it but I have to figure which files I want to include and which files in general I use, where they're located, etc.
It's been way too long for me to remember this stuff...since '98-'99...
Let's just hope your link works for Arch.
I'm assuming either we haz no scandisk & defrag in 8.1 or 10, either that or they're hiding from me. I'm really hating 8.1. I can't find shit on it. I love the computer, but despise the OS.

Everybody hates Windows 8. +1

You can defrag but you need to be administrator. I think right-clicking "Computer" can get you there. Or in Win 8 you need to do it with explorer.

Thanks. I know that and a scandisk should be done first, before one dual boots.

There's only two admins on this machine, and that's dedanna1029 and her roomie (and she's just there to help me if I need it. She's very Win literate, and some on Linux).

You can still activate the standard Windows administrator account like this:

LMAO the first one. It might be worth doing this just so I can damage it! Yeah, make the 8.1 install media, then upgrade to 10, activate the standard Windows administrator, and hack away - make it unusable. Do it while I'm still relearning stuff, that should make it even better! Hahahahahaaaaaa! The damage will be obscene, and way too funny! :D

It will give me a great excuse to wipe Windows altogether!

I loved this line when you put up the post. Just didn't put it together with this at the time:

Too funny!
