Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10061 I had to implement the workaround in this wiki :B Very nice and professional-looking. There are a lot of personalities involved all over FOSS development. Consider Gnome 3 and I am getting increasingly irritated with grub2 :f Trying to just get kernel m...

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
I've got openSUSE-12.3-DVD-x86_64 iso in my hot little hands. Yes, I see zypper is supposed to be great. With the main motivator being getting my printer working, I see it working on another box on Mandriva 2011 x86_64 and 64-bit Manjaro. Rosa, IMO, is the most viable Mandriva-descended distro atm, ...

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
Yes, 30 boots is fine but this is happening every boot (nearly). Also, sound is not working. Maybe Arch, Mint...? Someone (you?) said SuSE has an rpm dependency solver like urpmi, maybe better, but I doubt it's better. 13 years using rpm is hard to give up for a fresh set of problems for an old guy....

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
No, at boot, when the kernel mounts the filesystem(s) on the partition(s), it checks for "dirty" flags that get set when a bad shutdown or poweroff happens, for example. If it sees this evidence of possible filesystem corruption, it does fsck and tries to set things right, using the journa...

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
You make it look so good and easy!
My luck is not so good.
I have switched to the nvidia driver and installed KDE by your recipes. However, whenever I reboot, even with the login/out manager, the filesystem comes up NOT clean! and a reiserfsck ensues. This is not good.

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
where is dpkg :?: edit: Ok, I used yaourt to get dpkg and makepkg to install it but dpkg won't install my 32-bit printer driver deb (only arch available) on my 64-bit install of manjaro. I am looking for multiarch package or something; this works on other distros..... edit: Ok, dpkg --add-architectu...

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
After snooping around google for how to edit files, looking at /etc/localtime, I see the clock has changed itself to localtime.

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
Well, my internet connection is not slow, so I don't think that helps me but the stable text mode installer gives me reiserfs as an option, so I went that way. Pretty easy to do, after a few trial runs, to learn the system, I am booted to Manjaro 0.8.6 XFCE :berserkf However, even though I set syste...

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
I am back :wall: I selected non-free launch, put 'nomodeset' in the kernel command line, and booted. After several minutes, only darkness. I could punch up the virtual ttys so, back in 7, I did the restart X trick, and got a desktop. Ok, I know the ropes, let's install. However, once I get to my cho...

Re: Installing Manjaro on my main box
So I downloaded and burned me the standard 0.8.6 standard (XFCE) version and fired it up https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1286780/gifs/cowboy1.gif Me too! I'm getting weary of my icons in plasma-desktop showing up all jumbled off the lower edge of the screen at startup, even though I've painstak...

Re: cannot copy thunderbird profile Topic is solved
A sadder tale was never told. :boohoo: One thing I have encountered is file ownership is known to the OS by uid and gid. So, whenever I do a new install, I create a user with the same name, same uid, same gid. It sometimes helps to become root and chown -R viking.viking /home/viking or chown -R viki...
