Re: Flash is dying

Well, yeah, there has been the odd man out here and there that's nice. But, one has to think, could they have done that without flash? I think maybe so.

Re: Will The Linux Desktop Soon Be Irrelevant?

Yeah. On a sad serious note, it really is the truth... Why they had to name it "cloud computing" I'll never know. Between that and pollution, I'm missing a wonderful element of my childhood now. Remember the days of kicking back in a grassy field, and playing the game of "what does th...

Yeah, I kind of look up in the sky now, and say "y'know, you guys just aren't as pretty as you used to be..."

Re: Flash is dying

Interesting. Makes me wonder if those on Open Source systems will be left out in the cold, or if this will produce a whole new "niche" market-wise. Edit: Just opinion here. I'm not all too crazy about Flash anyway. Way too many web sites use it with way over-abundance, ads use it with way ...

Re: Gentoo

Well, if I can feel just a tad better, well, even if I can't... I have a 3-day weekend this week. Will be on furlough on Friday (the governor here has mandated due to state cutbacks that we each take a one-day unpaid furlough a month, it's fine, I'm cool with it), so I'll have time to give the Gento...

Re: dvd drive has gone out

It's okay. My son came down and helped me tear down the computer; it was indeed that I hadn't tightened up the cabling enough when the hard drive failed and I re-did everything. So, I guess that makes this a non-issue. What do we do with non-issue threads? Time for sleep. I'm seriously way wip...

Re: Gentoo

Yeah. Just need to get feeling better so I can lift this thing and tear it down to see what's up with the dvd drive.

Edit: Wait, my son's coming down this evening, and he's a whiz at this stuff (I taught him :D) - maybe I could get him to help me with it.

Out for a while.

Just thought I'd give heads up that I'm not feeling well these days, and don't feel very talkative. Am going to leave the forum to our site admin (provided it's okay with him) until I'm feeling better. Lots of pain fighting going down here, and energy level is very low from it. See y'all when I'm ba...

Re: Gentoo

I think I now know what I want to install on my other drive... hhmmm... at least it's something to consider. If I'm going to do distros with source installations anyway, then I should consider this one at least.

Re: log out not working in 64bit (viking60)

Well, Mandriva's fubarred Gnome several times. Have filed mega-bugs on it, but they seemed to get them fixed in good time (however, that was then, this is now. Not sure how they'd do with it now). Sorry, wasn't thinking on Linux Mint. I keep forgetting it's debian. The point of what I was saying, is...

I don't think so now. Your point on that was well taken.

Thank you, btw.
