Re: Wireless issue (AGAIN), Mageia 5

Without wireless, I can't get to the Windows drivers. I'm going to have to figure something out.
I have other issues with this. Will need to start a new thread when I can.

Re: Do not speak about private things - at home!

I have a Sanyo Roku TV, and see no way the thing can hear me to collect anything I say. It has no mic, no recording app, no anything, nothing that is voice activated, it just has the apps for things I watch. I am against things like Alexa, as they do listen to your voice, and can transmit it to plac...

Re: Writing this down again. How to burn ISO to USB

viking60 wrote:Just to repeat it - If you use dd to make your USB then this is the method:

Code: Select all

dd if=viking.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4m

Earlier in the thread you said bs=4k. Here you have 4m. What gives?
Thanks.

Re: Wireless issue (AGAIN), Mageia 5

I'm installing Mageia 7 on this bloody thing, in the hope that it has the wireless driver. I'm doubting it will, as the newer the distro, the newer the hardware it supports - not the old. Still, worth a try. If all else fails, I'll try Arch.

Re: Win 8 and 10 are more insecure than Win 7

Well, turns out I won't need to. She caught wind of Win 7 going out at the first of the year, emailed me about installing Linux. Pretty isn't what gets her, but I'm sure when she gets time she'll be going through the Linux wallpapers. Soon as I can get $s to get to Colorado Springs, Maw, we'll git '...

Re: Arch 32-bit download?

Viking, my fav Arch buddy, what say you?
I seem to remember back when I had computers running, something about this, but I could be remembering wrong? It's been way too long.
I want to try it on my old HP laptop.
Thanks!

Arch 32-bit download?

Hiya,

I'm going through server after server here, and am unable to find a 32-bit version of Arch at their download pages. Is there one, or will a 64-bit version detect 32? Thanks.

Another Win 10 "by design" mistake

Who the hell writes code for Microcrap, anyway?!?!?
Turns out, this time they created yet another vulnerability, by turning off the registry backup, which in turn screws up System Restore!
Idiots.

Re: First truly open-source smartphone

I don't think so. Google is nothing but bloatware.

I'd love bare bones, @R_Head, but how do we get the apps we do use on it?

We have those things. Sometimes however, we get busy, and plus, it's a lot more fun to screw a system up and then fix it lol. Anything else is just plain boring.

F that. If I could've, I would have kept Mom on XP. Unfortunately, she hasn't been a Linux sell... yet.
