And I'm a-downloading. :)

Seen on Facebook today:

Today is release day for Fedora 13! Go grab a copy of the latest goodness at the download site. Remember that our Live images can be turned into discs or you can make a Live USB for even more hotness.

If you choose to use BitTorrent to download, please be kind and seed for others.

To all my friends, co-workers, associates, and peeps in the Fedora Project — THANK YOU for the marvelous job you've done on this release and everything that went into it. You're inspirational and have helped Fedora truly rock it.

For those of you looking for release notes, you can find them here at the new Publican-based Documentation site.

By the way, I know many of you readers are setting up release events or parties. Please feel free to blog about them and let us know how they go!

And, as a heads up, the dvd is here.

Let me know what you think compared to previous releases of Fedora please? I won't have chance to install until this weekend.

Thanks!

I am writing this from Fedora 13! First impressions:
Better than ever - but then again I have never been a fan.
It works nicely in Virtualbox. I did my usual

Code: Select all

yum install system-config-display
and set up a LCD monitor with 1280x1024 resolution. rebooted and I now have a nice environment to work with.
Language settings are fine so everything is Norwegian. So far so good. I' ll post more once I get arround to testing it further.
Looking better than ever so far......
Rhythmbox works.

Well... when you have good people like Adam Williamson working for Red Hat, you get a great product ;)

Ok nice looks, gnome-shell has no fonts - but I never have had that working in Virtualbox on any distro - Fedora 13 is close tho...
3d does not work in Virtualbox but then again it never does, this is not Fedora spesific.
Apache server, mysql and php is installed.
Added some non free repos as root:

Code: Select all

 rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

And:

Code: Select all

rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
Also installed system-config-services to control my daemons. Works nicely!
Now trying to configure mysql.....

I ran the:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation
this prompts the mysql root password (It has nothing to do with the other root password!) but as in Mandriva you have to reboot to make this work - it is not enough to just start the daemon and run it.
After a reboot it worked just fine - so now I should be able to log in with phpmyadmin with the newly created password....
And it does - no problem. I am begining to like this :s

In general, I just like Yum it just seems to be fully compatible with my (twisted?) mind. I get an Idea and find it logical to just try yum remove fusion-icon and it removes it. Not some cryptic code - plain English. It seems to work for every crazy idea I have, it matches my logic; Fedora have you been spying on me? Not even my wife manages to follow my logics. :D

I have had my first crash - nicely warned by Fedora. gvfs crashed but that might have been due to a brutal shut down on my part.

It is easy to install.
It looks nice
It is fast enough but not as fast as Ubuntu in Virtualbox ( This does not mean much. I later found Ubuntu to be sloow on AA).
Is it the best distro out there :?:
No - Arch is :ugeek: ( not even worth discussing it is a matter of taste and need)
Is it the most important distro out there?
Yes! Together with Debian.
Is Fedora13 a good starting point for a beginner?
It could be - it is not that difficult to handle, but there are other distros with more control panels that make life easier. Personaly I do not think that Suse is any easier to handle than Fedora 13. Mandriva and Ubuntu are more beginner/user friendly.

I have not tested the plug and play printer stuff in Virtualbox, this could potentially swing Fedora13 over to the most user friendly distro out there.

Have a look for your selves. Also I have placed an error in the video - the first one to find it, will get an honorable mentioning :A :

HA! And you were the one who said you didn't like Fedora much! LOL

Anyway, glad to see you're liking it. I'm going to go ahead and give it the go this weekend!

:S This is only a first impression. I am sure I am going to dislike it somewhat later - as usual. I have heard someone complaining about the wifi already (so there HA, back to you). I have not tested this, so I would not know. My first impression is good though - fair is fair.

Fedora has always been the most important distro out there togethter with Debian - no one can ignore it.
What Fedora does matters - if you like it or not.
And I might just like this one all the way.

I still prefer Arch tho.... I like to spend the time to get it perfect. And the blistering speed that makes it so very usable with stability as a bonus.
No other distro is close to that.

I have spoken Ugh! +1

BTW here is an image of Fedora 13 with KDE (thought I make you happy dedanna - knowing how much you love KDE):
