Looks like the Mandriva build system is at its death bed and that ROSA ABF will be used in the future. This is also what Unity has decided to do.
Now ROSA is a well functioning (Mandriva) distro where our italian friends from MiB also have chipped in heavily. I will be looking forward to Per Øyvinds comments on how Mandriva will develop in a somewhat different direction than ROSA.
It can hardly be the point to do all this hard work only to finally reach a level where Mandriva is an exact copy of ROSA. Then it would make more sense to simply chip in on the ROSA distro.
Mandriva as a trademark and company looks great. The Enterprise products are just what people need. And no one will trust that these products are supported or that even Mandriva will be there tomorrow.
Sadly this overshadows the great products.
In Spain there are massive migrations to Linux and it is all Debian. In Russia I am uncertain how ROSA is doing, but I think they have a chance.
But even this is not so certain anymore; here is a somewhat bitter comment from a person who seems involved in Russian software platforms. The Blog has errors so I am not sure how trustworthy it is. The accusations about corruptions mostly tend to be true in Russia though. And ROSA and PingWin software seem to be partners as the blog states.
It might well be the case that Putin used Windows piracy as an excuse for raiding the opposition (In Russia you can always find a pirated Windows - so you can choose and pick).
And that could be all there is to it.
Still it also makes sense that Putin does not want to trust his nuclear weapons or state secrets to American closed software
What Mandriva is going to be, is still a mystery - but it might just be me that has been sleeping in class...
It sounds right to move to the ROSA build system though.
