OK my box is fubared. I suspect it is a HD failure. It could be the Kernel update but I doubt it. Anyone else have trouble with Arch updates lately?

None here, but then I haven't had a kernel update. Haven't updated since the last time I updated here.

Try rolling back to previous kernel before you do anything. If you need it, let me know. I can send it to you. Don't assume anything at all yet - I've had kernels make me think my hdd was fubarred, when it wasn't. I just had to roll them back. One on Fedora did that to me.

We need to give it a viking funeral...

Set it in the boat and light it with an Arch. How very fitting :-D

OK so I pulled out this USB HD and started installing Arch on it. No problem but I was a bit unsure about the Grub. But than can always be altered by hitting "e" on the grub menu.
Rebooted and got some complaints, so I rearranged the order of my HD's in BIOS and rebooted again.
Hit the "e" on the Archlinux boot line and set it to hd (2,0); Hard disk three first partition in my mind. Rebooted again and Slim starts up and I boot right back in to the fubared HD. :wrf
Well I did open the box and check some connections so I guess I got some life into it again. :dance1
This is strange because Win could not detect that disk either.. before. OK backup coming up. It is only a matter of time before it crashes again I guess. Still I am :confused but happy
Edit:
Hmm I wonder if this is a kernel update thing after all where some connected USB-disk's confused the Kernel. I should know by now that WE ALWAYS DISCONECT EXTERNAL DISKS BEFORE A KERNEL UPDATE :wall:

I've never had to disconnect mine, even for a kernel update. My own suspicion would be the usb-utils update (that didn't affect me either though).

Could be the module-init-tools update as well.

Question, did you do this update in tty (init 3), or no? I'm going to do it that way later. I prefer kernel/hardware-type updates that way, to have nothing else running. They always go off without a hitch that way for me.

As a second thought, you could always roll these updates back (the pertinent ones), and try reinstalling them in init 3.

No no tty. I just used the terminal. For graphical updates it makes sense tho..

I'd try it anyway. What have you got to lose.
