Re: Arch Linux

Postby dedanna1029 » 22 Oct 2010, 03:17

I am more than confident that what I'm experiencing with this is upstream; however, can not verify this, so figured it has to start somewhere, that being with the Arch bugzilla. As good as the Arch devels are at stabilizing things, I am more than certain that they can, and will, figure out as to whether it's upstream, or local, and will notify me either way.

Until then, I have screensavers - both xscreensaver and gnome-screensaver - turned off, and am using the power button on my monitor when I leave the computer.

I am sure if you do the same with Mandriva, and file a bug on it at their bugzilla, they will figure out the same; however, this is about Arch, since that is now what I'm using solely (and is the title of this thread).

Re: yaourt issue in Arch

Postby dedanna1029 » 22 Oct 2010, 03:46

I have had an annoying teeny niggle for a while now, I think since updates previous to this last batch. When I use yaourt, and it gets to the point of putting in the root password to install, I put it in 3x, and it still doesn't get it for whatever reason, then asks for it with a complaint, and finally "gets it" when I put it in then:

Code: Select all

Password:
Password:
Password:
You are not allowed to launch /usr/bin/pacman with sudo
Please enter root password
Password:
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...

Any clue what's up with this?

Thanks.

I would have loved to see the prior command here. Did you start yaourt with sudo?

Nope.

Just a snippet here:

Rebuild the depends (perl-class-inspector perl-env-path perl-file-sharedir perl-io-stty perl-io-tty perl-list-moreutils perl-params-util perl-regexp-common) and it works. Not sure which one specifically as I automated it and rebuilt them all.

Comment by: stuffcorpse on Thu, 13 May 2010 03:09:27 +0000
Thanks! that works :)

I narrowed down to either perl-io-tty or perl-list-moreutils or both.

Well, just in case I bumped all of the perl requirements that I own up a pkgrel as well as cope-git, so that at least some of the requirements will get a rebuild.

Comment by: coroa on Fri, 14 May 2010 13:24:02 +0000
For me it was: perl-list-moreutils.

Segfaults after the perl 5.12.1-2 upgrade - I've tried rebuilding, to no avail...

Today's perl-list-moreutils-0.22-4 fixed it...

Code: Select all

You are not allowed to launch /usr/bin/pacman with sudo
So you have no idea where this comes from?
Could you have entered the wrong password?

Rightie-oh. On the first prompt for the password, I put it in. Then it won't accept it. This process repeats 3x, then it gives me that "You are not allowed..." garbage, at which time I put it in a fourth time, and it accepts it. I am in the sudo group, btw, but don't use sudo. This happens every single time I use yaourt now.

Hm the sudo password is the same as your user password and NOT the same as the root password. I think the solution lies right there.

No. When it gets to the installation point, it is supposed to ask for the root password when not using sudo, so it has access to install the package. It has always been this way, up until the batch of updates prior to this last one, and never gave me any grief doing it (again, I don't use sudo; I have HUGE issues with using it).

It's doing it again as we speak, note the point it is at:

Code: Select all

==> Tidying install...
  -> Purging other files...
  -> Compressing man and info pages...
  -> Stripping unneeded symbols from binaries and libraries...
  -> Removing empty directories...
==> Creating package...
  -> Generating .PKGINFO file...
  -> Compressing package...
==> Leaving fakeroot environment.
==> Finished making: perl-io-stty 0.30.0-3 (Thu Oct 21 21:01:26 MDT 2010)

==> Continue installing perl-io-stty ? [Y/n]
==> [v]iew package contents [c]heck package with namcap

Your description above is correct so something must be influencing the password prompt.
What is the output of

Code: Select all

cat /etc/group |cut -d: -f1

What did you mean by being a member of the sudo group?

I had added myself (my user) to the sudo group, is what I meant. But now in hindsight, it is possible that I didn't because I haven't wanted to use it; trying to remember, but I don't. I take issue with the Ubuntified way of doing things, and feel it to be insecure to use sudo.

Code: Select all

I will check for a response in the morning. I am well beyond being able to work with anything any more tonight. I must sleep. I should've some 4-5 hours ago.

If I did, it would have been just to the "sudo" group.
