Todays update was massive and if you have dockbarX installed you have to remove it for the Gnome update.

Okay, thanks. I'm going to wait 'til tomorrow for that and do it in tty.

FYI, my Arch box loads from cold start in 13 seconds ATM. You? Also, the only single issue I have with it right now is xscreensaver.

Yeah that thing is über fast. I love it. Also you might want to update without the nvidia drivers loaded. There is a nvida update again.

Yeah, that's why I'm going to update in tty. I *may* go so far as to uninstall the old driver first, and then install it when the updates are done (the new one will come in then).

Updates went off without a hitch, btw. I hit Ctrl+Alt+F2, dropped to tty, and then went init 3, uninstalled nvidia, then ran pacman -Syu for 238 packages to be updated. Then, ran pacman -S nvidia, that brought in the new driver. I then attempted to go init 5, but when I did, gdm started timing out, so I hit a Ctrl+c to cancel that, and just typed in "reboot" - came right back up into the desktop, this time in 10 seconds.

Only real problem I saw, was that updates took so long, I fell asleep during them - just woke up. LOL.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the xscreensaver update is no good. It really is causing issues. Sometimes one can't get back to the desktop, because the desktop won't wake up. Doesn't matter if you hit the keyboard 50 times, run the mouse around for a half hour, it just won't wake up. What I could catch of it, is there's a pam authentication error - I looked it up on google, and it appears others are having the issue, too.

I'm not using screensavers for now, hoping the next update may fix this. I was using Gnome screensaver this time, and it had almost crashed X - when it woke up, my hard drive ran for some 3 minutes. Not good.

Funny you should say that. I have this issue from time to time in Mandriva but not in Arch. Turning the monitor on and off brings it back.

I've tried that many times, to no avail. :(

Bug #21395 filed for Arch.

I do not use the Gnome screensaver as I think it conflicts with xscreensaver. In Arch you can remove it, in Mandriva it has the entire Gnome as a dependency so it cannot be removed. That is why I have the problem in Mandriva I belive.

It does conflict with xscreensaver, that is why when you run Xscreensaver-demo, if gnome-screensaver is running, it will pop up a box asking you if you want to turn it off to run xscreensaver. If you choose "Ok" on this, it will stop gnome-screensaver and will then give you an option to start xscreensaver.

I have used it both ways. If you don't want to run xscreensaver, just don't run Xscreensaver-demo, and gnome-screensaver will run.

I have chosen to not run Xscreensaver-demo in order to leave gnome-screensaver running, and at other times chosen to run Xscreensaver-demo to allow xscreensaver to run.

Right now, both ways, I am hosed in some form or fashion, as described in the bug I filed. Please vote for it, thanks.

I have trouble reproducing the error since I do not have gnome-screensaver installed (I cannot use both anyway). I must have had a reason for removing it though. The trouble in Mandriva makes me suspect that it is not an Arch issue.
