Is weird... Manjaro seems to load as live but refuses to install. Stalls on a black screen, not sure if is going at it or just froze.
Well, gave up on it and got me a Laptop from Tiger Direct.
HP EliteBook 8460p Notebook PC - Intel Core i5 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, 14.1" Display. Is off a lease, 1 year warranty for $379.99
Always had good luck with HP / Compaq and Linux. I think that secure boot from MS is not there because is a Win 7 64 Bit OS. My 75 year old mum in law asked me for Linux; got tired of MS because her old laptop broke. She misses it... asked me for Firefox because cannot stand IE. Is she sweet, bless her heart... ! Anyway, her laptop is a HP with 4 GB RAM and I think 2 GHz processor, is pretty darn fast on Linux and Mageia 5 worked right out of the box.

It freezes on me too, before it even gets to a blank screen, and that's on up to date hardware. I'm going to install Arch instead, when the kernel's updated enough to.

Interesting.
As you know; I never use the installer since Manjaro is a rolling release so I just update. But if you cannot get it to install then it is a problem of course.

Yeah, R_Head and I both have plenty of RAM and processor speed for it to run. I'm not sure what's up with the installer, but for me it does it right off the bat.

What is/are the benefit/s of having a rolling distro. My understanding is that is better than yearly releases.
There are/is any problems that Mageia is not that way?

It takes more work for the devs.
For the users there are only benefits.

Re: A very light rpm distro comparison
Just got the laptop and installed Mageia 5.
I am super surprised how well and easy the install went. All works right off the box. Never had such a lightning fast and easy install with any OS.
Very pleased with the purchase.
The only thing that gave me a hard time was to set up the BIOS to boot from the DVD. Even as a life distro... just darn worked..!

Re: A very light rpm distro comparison
Yes I installed Mageia on my Mother's laptop - because the install worked. I might have had an issue with the Manjaro installer (can't remember).

Yeah, the more I think about it I think I'll try installing Mageia with this tip, although I noticed on it:
Firmware API 2
Embedding both firmware and otp images into same file firmware-2.bin. Firmware meta data provided through FW IE. Added in commit 1a222435a dated Sep 27 2013, for Linux 3.13.
