Correct package compiling procedure (afterwards)?

Postby dedanna1029 » 22 Nov 2012, 06:15

I'm assuming that once we have installed the <whatever>-devel packages we need to compile the package, and then compiled the package successfully, we can then uninstall all the <whatever>-devel packages we had to install to compile? Aren't they just needed for the compilation process, and not needed for the running of the program we've compiled? My / is getting super full with -devel packages.

Thanks.

Right. The devel packages are for compiling, only, afaik. Some would be needed for many or most building of other software packages, should you need to build again. So, in your case, you'd have to re-install them.

OK. I think I have done all I'm going to compile - maybe one more, not sure.

Thanks.
