Well Actually this way of installation is worth nothing really. Pulling KDE from the Arch repos seems to be the sensible thing to do. KDE 4.4 is pretty much a vanilla install in Chakra too. So I don't see the big advantage - there is nothing customized about it.
....
It has been somewhat quiet from me here, that is because I am finishing up the Arch installation. I have Mysql And apache running nicely. But the PHP will not play along.

Re: Arch Linux
And after some tweaking of the httpd.conf and php.ini files my scripts are running just fine as is joomla and phpbb. Arch is a good distro. It clearly does not have it's strong points on the server side though. So if that is your aim go for Centos or Debian and yes even Mandriva. Sure, you can tweak the server as you like it but there are so many parameters to consider, so it is best to take one of the above.
One issue I had was:
All in all Arch is the impressive so far. So I understand why so many pros love it. Starting to test hardware.....
USB's are recognized and work just fine. The Thoshiba Equim numeric keypad must be defined manually it seems. I have found nothing that will make the numeric keypad work. Wifi only works in KDE so far.
Please do prove me wrong on this!
The print screen did not work out of the box in KDE. I installed kdemod-kdegraphics-ksnapshot and that was it. It works fine now.
Most hardware is working fine though.
I have installed yaourt which is a pacman wrapper that lets you install from sources (kind of like Gentoo). I tested it with Opera and it sure is nice. It works exactly like Pacman, but has a lot of additional functions and query possibilities.
I can only recommend it.

Yup it sure is. And it is blistering fast and stable, even when I play around with it. You can add and remove and customize it to be what you want. And you must install yaourt (and maybe other AUR tools). This thing works.
Most people that have used both Arch and Gentoo seem to agree:
Arch is faster and better than Gentoo

the good part is that it's well documented, though a lot of the guides tells me to uncomment community in pacman.conf, it is already uncommented so it seems i can't get the non supported stuff like skype etc.
Edit: interesting links btw

Re: Arch Linux
A thanks, looks nice, i just installed Arch on my disk (not just virtualbox anymore) cause it really seems like a good distro. And the installation is überfast.
boot is damn fast too, never seen a linux distro boot up gdm that fast before.

Re: Arch Linux
Hate to say I told you so - But I told you so.
As they say the "Arch way" is probably nothing for a guy coming from Windows. They will get going much easier with Mandriva (or maybe SUSE). But when you have some experience and get fuzzy about speed and optimization then Arch is for you. And it is cutting edge. It runs on Kernel 2.6.33 here, and firefox is in version 3.6.3 (Namoroka). It sure beats Fedora too IMHO.
Arch is always on top, there is no "next" release in 6 months. The next release is your next update. Yup that's a (rockin') rolling release.
After update you've got all latest and greatest applications with the bonus of stability.
(You don't have to wait to see the color changing from brown to purple, which is the main Ubuntu issue these days, I belive

Ok the laptop is back in the drawer and acting as a server numpad is not working (and I don't need it). Bot Gnome and KDEmod are working fine. This is my experience also:

Arch will find it's way to more of my boxes for sure!
